The Corbett Adventure
Jim Corbett National Park is located in the northern part of the state of Uttar Pradesh. It is named in honor of the legendary hunter turned naturalist, author and photographer, Jim Corbett, who had helped in demarcating the boundaries and setting up the park. It was in this area that he had shot the dreaded “man-eaters”, the notorious Kanda man eater being one of them. His books on these thrilling true life adventures – “The Man eaters of Kumaon” and the “Man eating Leopard of Rudraprayag” are perennial best sellers, well known all over the world. Once, a popular hunting ground of the British, this 201 square mile park is today the home to a variety of flora and fauna. It is famous for its population of Royal Bengal Tigers, leopards and Asian elephants. Corbett National Park is India’s first national park and is the first sanctuary to come under Project Tiger, started to protect the tiger population of India. With the help of the World Wildlife Fund, Project Tiger was launched in Corbett National Park in 1973.
